I have been a bit busy to write over the last 24 hours due to having to act as midwife (ok assistant midwife) to my cat, however this article from the Pakistan Daily Times caught my eye. It is refreshing that a country in the grips of emergency rule can still implement a boxing strategy for the future. Rs 218.875 million is about £1.75 million or $3.50 million.

Government approves budget for boxing gymnasiums

The Federal Government has approved a budget of Rs 218.875 million for the construction of boxing gymnasiums in Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi, a spokesman for the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) said here on Monday. “The PSB had started work on five gymnasiums three years ago but the work was halted after October 8 earthquake as seismic zone code was applied on all new constructions in Islamabad, AJK and NWFP,” he added. He said a special grant had also been allocated in this regard to promote boxing in the four provinces and the federal capital. It is pertinent to mention that land issue for the Lahore gymnasium is yet to be solved. “The PSB has revised PC-I of these schemes and placed before Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for its approval. And they approved Rs 218.875 million for the completion of three gymnasiums in Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi,” he concluded.
